What it does

A tutor that talks back, and corrects you

Speaking is the default and typing is always there. The drills are still in it — they are just aimed at what you got wrong out loud.

  • It listens, and it answers

Hold the button, say the sentence, let go. The tutor replies out loud and keeps the conversation going — not a scripted branch, an actual back and forth that follows wherever you take it.

  • Corrected while it still stings

The fix comes back against the sentence you just said, with the reason beside it. Feedback a week later in a report is feedback about someone you no longer remember being.

  • Type when you cannot speak

On a bus, in an office, at midnight in a shared flat. The same tutor, the same corrections, no microphone. Speaking is the default, not the toll.

  • Conversations worth having

Order the coffee, argue about the bill, explain why you are late, sit the job interview. You pick the situation, and you can run it again until it stops being frightening.

  • Drills for what you keep missing

The tutor notices what you get wrong and hands you short exercises for it — listen and choose, build the sentence — so practice is aimed at your gaps rather than at a syllabus.

  • Nobody is listening but the tutor

No classroom, no partner to disappoint, no recording anyone else will hear. The privacy policy says exactly what happens to your voice and how long it is kept.

  1. Pick something you are going to have to say

A coffee order, a phone call, the small talk before a meeting. Start from a scenario or just start talking — the tutor takes it from there.

  2. Say it out loud

Hold to speak, in the language you are learning. Halting, wrong, with a word missing in the middle: it works out what you meant and keeps going rather than stopping to correct your grammar mid-sentence.

  3. See what you actually said

Your sentence comes back written down, with the fix underneath and the reason for it. Pronunciation is marked on the words that need it, not on all of them.

  4. Run it again, or go and do it

Repeat the conversation until it is boring. Boring is the point — it means the real one will be too.

Coming back

It remembers the conversation you walked away from

Scenarios sit in an order — ordering a coffee, explaining you are late, sitting an interview — and the app opens on the one you were halfway through. There is nothing to choose and nothing to set up, which is the difference between an app you mean to use and one you use.

  • A scenario you have handled stays handled. Nothing expires.
  • A harder scenario says what it will take, not just that it is locked.
  • Miss a day and you lose the streak, not the progress.

FAQ

The questions a sceptic asks about an AI tutor

  • Is it really a conversation, or a script with branches?

A conversation. The tutor is a language model, so it answers what you actually said rather than picking the nearest of five prepared replies. That also means it can be wrong — it is a practice partner, not a textbook, and the terms say so plainly.

  • Do I have to speak?

No. Every conversation can be typed instead, and you can switch mid-way. Speaking is what the app is for, but a tutor you can only use in a room on your own is a tutor you use twice.

  • What happens to my voice recordings?

They are sent to our speech and model providers to be turned into text and answered, and then they are deleted. The privacy policy lists the providers by name, what each one receives, and exactly how long audio is kept. We do not use your recordings to train models.

  • Will it correct my accent?

It marks the words that would stop you being understood, and leaves the rest alone. Sounding like a native speaker is not the goal and chasing it is how people give up; being understood is the goal.

  • Which language does it teach?

English, for Spanish speakers. Nothing in the app is built around that particular pair, so more are a matter of content rather than of rebuilding anything.

  • Is there a streak, a league, a leaderboard?

A streak, yes. No leagues and no leaderboard — the only number that compares you to anyone is the one comparing you to yourself yesterday.

The first conversation is the hard one

Have it with something that cannot be disappointed in you, as many times as you need, before you have it with a person who can.
